Unshaven hair transplant: questions before booking

Prepared by the Taj Clinic editorial team · 1 October 2026

You may want to preserve your appearance during recovery, but an unshaven transplant does not mean the same thing in every offer.

Which areas will be shaved?

ISHRS explains that the FUE donor area may be fully shaved, partly shaved or left unshaven. Longer surrounding hair can hide a partly shaved area. Ask about the recipient area too; do not assume no hair will be shortened.

Request an individual assessment

Send clear front, side and back photos. Explain your usual hair length and work requirements. Ask which options can be considered after medical assessment.

  • Will shaving be complete, partial or avoided?
  • Which areas will have shorter hair?
  • Will the proposed graft number change, and why?
  • Will procedure time or cost differ?
  • What washing and return-to-work instructions apply?

Appearance and recovery

Discuss temporary visible effects and obtain written instructions from the doctor. Do not decide when to return to work from a marketing term alone.

Germany and Belgium Germany: request the city, full address and clinician’s name. Check whether consultation and procedure occur at the same site. Hair transplant cost: what should a quote include?

Compare written quotes for the same scope, currency and treatment location. A headline price alone cannot tell you what you will actually pay. Treatment and follow-up Ask who performs the assessment and procedure, which steps are included, and how changes to the proposed plan affect the price. Confirm whether tests, medicines, aftercare products, washing visits and follow-up are included. Travel

One hair transplant session or two? How to discuss the plan

The number of sessions depends on the individual assessment, donor area and the area to be covered. A larger graft count is not automatically a better plan. Planning the first session Ask which areas the first session targets: hairline, mid-scalp or crown. Discuss donor capacity, likely future hair loss and the trade-off between coverage and density.
