DHI refers to placing hair grafts using a specialist implanter pen, often known as a Choi pen. The pen places grafts into planned areas after extraction from the donor site.
Extraction and implantation are different stages: grafts may be extracted using FUE and then implanted with a DHI pen. Your doctor discusses the approach for your situation; no single technique suits everyone.
From extraction to the implanter pen
First: grafts are extracted from the donor area and kept in appropriate conditions.
Then: the pen places them according to the planned distribution and hair direction. A technique name does not replace assessment, team experience and follow-up.

Growth and follow-up
Temporary redness, swelling or scabs may occur, and transplanted hair may shed before gradually growing. Discuss recovery, growth and follow-up timing with your doctor.
Hair transplantation is surgery, with possible risks including bleeding, infection, scarring and failure of some grafts to grow. Ask how these risks are managed, and contact the medical team about unusual symptoms.
